Heather Basten
Member of The Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG), Heather Basten is a part of the CDG’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee.
She’s also a member of the Casting Society of America (CSA).
Starting in the industry at the BFI’s education department, London-based Heather Basten moved into casting for TV and film more than a decade ago.
As a casting associate, Heather worked with Kharmel Cochrane, and her projects included TV series The End of the F***ing World.
Having been Casting Director for a number of short films, In 2018 she took on her first TV mini-series, for Shortflix.
Since then she has been consistently busy, including TV series Hometown Horror, video game The Complex to dystopian feature film Zero.
She’s worked for many notable directors and producers, including Rob Savage, Oliver Kassman, Charlotte Regan, Abraham Adeyemi and Andrew Cumming.
In 2021, Heather Basten was named as a ‘Star of Tomorrow’ by Screen International.
Heather Basten doesn’t mind actors being proactive and getting in touch with an email.

When talking to Spotlight, Heather Basten says she prefers actors to learn their sides, even if they only get a day’s notice. She believes it enhances what they do in the casting room.
Ceri Bedingfield
Probationary Member of The Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG), Ceri Bedingfield has worked as a casting assistant for several TV series, including Enterprice and Tin Star.
She’s also worked in casting theatre productions and on a number of feature films including Body of Water (2020) and County Lines (2019).
After drama school, Ceri Bedingfield started running a production company with friends, and from that realised she was interesting in casting productions.
As Ceri Bedingfield told Ash Taba in the full interview below, she’s glad not to have the job insecurity of actors and not be trying for a new job each week, especially as she does not like waiting for things to happen but prefers to be out making things happen.
Over the years she’s worked on commercials and short films, then with Aisha Bywaters she worked on mainly independent film with some BBC and Channel 4 projects. Then she joined Dixie Chassay Casting working on independent films. In 2020 was working for casting director Rachel Freck.

Leila Bertrand
A former actress and graduate of Weber Douglas, Leila Bertrand is a busy London-based Casting Director and Full Member of The Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG).
In addition to casting work for film (ID2: Shadwell Army) and TV (Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery), Leila Bertrand also casts for theatre and commercial projects.
She also runs workshops and casting showcases.
Lizzie Bichard Casting
Member of The Casting Directors’ Guild , Lizzie Bichard CDG received a nomination for The Mandy Network’s 2019 UK Casting Director of the Year Award.
Her credits as Casting Assistant included hit TV series Outlander and feature films Cinderella (2015/16) and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015).
As Casting Director, Lizzie Bichard’s credits include the feature film White Chamber (2018), for which Shauna MacDonald won best actress in the Scottish BAFTAs.

Sarah Bird
Veteran Casting Director Sarah Bird started her career in BBC Radio and Television Drama, and instigated the BBC’s first in-house casting department.
A Full Member of The Casting Directors’ Guild, Sarah Bird CDG has been casting for TV and film projects since the 1980s. Her casting resume also includes an extensive list of national and West End theatre productions.
She’s worked on a number of TV series including Hustle, Holby Blue, The Chase and Silent Witness, in addition to feature films, TV movies, TV mini-series and documentaries.
Nancy Bishop, Casting Director
North American Emmy Award Nominated Casting Director Nancy Bishop works internationally from offices in London and Prague.
Beginning her career as a theatre director, she was artistic director of the Black Box Theatre Company in Prague before moving into the casting profession. She’s a Full Member of CDG (The Casting Directors’ Guild) and a founding member and former head of the European branch of the CSA (Casting Society of America).
Having cast over a hundred projects internationally, her credits include TV series The Romanoffs, 12 Monkeys, Crossing Lines and Missing, and feature films The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008), Child 44 (2015), and Little Kingdom (2019).
Nancy Bishop also coaches actors, and is the author of two Bloomsbury titles, Auditioning for Film and TV, and Secrets from the Casting Couch: On-Camera Strategies for Actors from a Casting Director.
She advises actors to enjoy the casting process, and use whatever energy that you have with you on the casting day.

Nicky Bligh, Casting Director
Before branching out as a freelance Casting Director, Nicky Bligh was part of the BBC in-house casting team for seven years.
Full Member of The Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG), Nicky has built up a strong reputation spotting talent for comedy projects.

Claudia Blunt
A Probationary Member of The Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG), London Casting Associate Claudia Blunt has quickly built up an impressive resume since starting on the TV series Emerald City in 2017.

Francesca Bradley
Francesca Bradley is a Casting Associate at Casting Pictures, run by Priscilla John and Orla Maxwell.
She’s a probationary member of The Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG), and has worked as Casting Director on several projects.

Jo Buckingham, Casting Director

Aisha Bywaters
Aisha Bywaters is a London based Casting Director and member of the Casting Directors’ Guild (CDG).
Although she expected to work in casting for theatre productions, she enjoyed working for Shaheen Baig on screen productions and stayed as part of her team for six and a half years.
Because Aisha’s mother was an actress, spending several years working for the RSC, she grew up with first hand experience of the financial difficulties actors go through when work dries up. So she completed a Politics degree, and has found that a useful background for some aspects of the casting profession.
Aisha Bywaters’ extensive work across Film, TV, Music Videos and Commercials means she’s worked on everything from feature films A Monster Calls (2016) and The Falling (2014) to hit TV series Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders.
In 2017, Creative England recorded a three minute introduction to Aisha Walters (now Bywaters) and her work.
In 2020, Backstage recorded an hour long video with casting director Aisha Bywaters.
